Calmingbirths

Hello there!

A little about me..

Hi, I’m Lulu, a Singapore-based doula and mother of two. I am an active member of Doulas of Singapore, I also have the honour of serving women at a local women’s shelter.

My interest in birthwork began when I was pregnant with my first child. I was surprised to learn the many ways women are cared for during the postpartum period. Confinement practices vary across cultures, but they all share the same purpose: to allow mothers to rest and recover after literally taking part in a miracle.

I love the smell of massage oils and herbs, and of course, babies. I love a good coffee and conversations with strangers, so don’t feel shy to reach out.

So, I heard you’re a DOULA

Calming Births is the home of Doula Lulu, a warm and safe space for women on their pregnancy journey.

Most of the time, our ideas of birth are exaggerated by what we see in the movies. I’m here to assure you that pregnancy, labour and postpartum does not have to be scary. Every pregnancy is beautifully unique, and I want to share my gift of understanding your needs during the most magical and transformative time of your life. My aim is to help you understand and manage each stage of your transition so that you can make informed choices every step of the way. I want you to understand what is happening in your body, tuning in to your gut feelings and feel powerful.

There may be stages where there is so much you need to know, so many changes going on and so much to plan and consider for. There may even be times where it becomes totally overwhelming- know that this is totally normal.

Interesting, tell me more..

Why do I need a doula?

When people get married they look out for the best photographer that captures the look they want, the perfect venue for the dream wedding, the dream dress, and so on. But I believe women can do more to educate themselves during their pregnancy journey.

A doula makes this journey easier by helping you set boundaries for yourself, inspire confidence in your innate power to birth, and motivate you to put in the work to achieve the birth that you want.

But what does a doula do, exactly?

A doula is someone who will meet you in advance, is on call for you, arrives at your home or hospital and is there with you throughout your labour with few breaks. A doula is trained and experienced in providing emotional support, physical comfort and nonclinical advice. They also work with your partner, guiding and assisting you on how to help, suggesting alternatives and other comfort measures you can take.

There are many times when the birthing person needs more than one helper during labour. Well there are also times where the partner needs reassurance, advice and help too! A doula will be able to fill in the gaps so that you can focus on what you need to do, birthing the baby!

Where do I start?

Childbirth is intense, demanding and exhausting and least to say unpredictable. Of course you will have a doctor and or midwife but they will most probably be busy with the clinical aspect of birth which is their highest priority. They also have to attend to other births because it might be likely that there are other mum delivering at the same time as you. They work in shifts and different people are likely to be involved.

My role is to provide you with the emotional and mental support to make sure you never feel alone, that your questions are valid, and your worries and fears are heard. I will help guide you back to your own power, and tune in to your strength and intuition. I will listen, hold your hand, and provide you with comprehensive, unbiased information so you can make your own informed decisions. I am not just here to provide you with answers or options. I will gently guide you through your unique path where you choose how you will bring your baby into the world, like the queen you are.

If you choose me to be a part of your dream birth team, I will support your husband so he can be your #awesomestbirthpartner. Talk to me about how you can achieve the birth that you want. A calm and gentle birth will impact your journey as you enter motherhood. Your experience during this period affects you so much more than you can imagine. I’m here to hold you and prepare you for the ride.

Services I provide

Birth Doula

Depending on the package you want that suits your needs, I do prenatal check-ins with you and I’ll be on call from 37 weeks until you deliver. I will ensure your space is protected and you are supported while you do your thang.

Postpartum Doula

As a postpartum doula, I can help identify problems you (or baby) may be facing and make referrals for help where necessary. But honestly I would most likely be making a hot cup of decaf tea, warming up that chocolate chip muffin, let you have that nice long, warm shower or best one - allowing you to nap while I stare at your baby’s teeeeeny toes!

Childbirth Classes

Sometimes you’re a little late to the game, you might be 4 weeks pregnant or you could be 33 weeks pregnant. You could be a first time mum or you could be a second mum trying to have a #calmingbirth this time. I provide classes based on what YOU need and what YOU want to know!

Post Natal Massage

After pushing a whole human out, a massage is all you knead! Hehe. There are many benefits to a postnatal massage, including muscle relaxation, stress relief, internal cleansing, improved breastfeeding, and better sleep, which is super important for mothers.
